Persona-Based Reports

DevSpec generates reports tailored to your role. Instead of everyone seeing the same dashboard or status update, each person gets a report focused on what matters to them. A product owner sees what shipped and what's blocked. An engineering lead sees velocity and risk areas. A salesperson sees feature highlights and competitive differentiators.

How Reports Work

DevSpec combines the full project narrative — sessions, decisions, action items, commits, deployments, milestones — with your role context to generate a tailored report via AI. The system draws from everything that happened in the project over your chosen time range, then writes a report framed for your specific role and interests.

Setting Up Your Profile

Navigate to your Account Settings to configure your reporting profile. You can set a job role (freeform text, e.g. "VP Engineering", "Product Manager", "Account Executive"), an optional description of what you care about, and custom report instructions that fine-tune what the AI includes or emphasises.

Profile Fields

  • Job Role — freeform text describing your title or function
  • Description — optional context about what you focus on or care about
  • Custom Instructions — specific guidance for your reports (e.g. "always include security-related changes", "keep it concise for board presentations")

Generating a Report

Reports are generated on-demand from the project reports page. Pick a time range (e.g. last 7 days, last 30 days) and optionally override the persona. The AI gathers the relevant narrative data and produces a report tailored to the chosen persona.

Persona Presets

DevSpec ships with built-in persona presets that frame reports for common roles. You can also define a fully custom persona.

Available Presets

  • Product Owner — what shipped, what's blocked, progress against goals and milestones
  • Engineering Lead — velocity, risk areas, technical debt, test coverage, deployment health
  • Executive — high-level summary of progress, key decisions, blockers, and team activity
  • Salesperson — new features, customer value, competitive differentiators, what's coming next
  • Custom — define your own role, focus areas, and report style

Behavioral Learning

Over time, DevSpec learns what you care about based on how you use the platform. It tracks which sessions you participate in, which action items you create and complete, and which topics you discuss. This behavioral snapshot is factored into report generation so your reports become more relevant the longer you use DevSpec.

Custom Instructions

Fine-tune your reports by adding custom instructions in your profile. These are natural language directives that the AI follows when generating your report.

Examples

  • "Always include security-related changes, even if minor"
  • "Make it board-presentation friendly — bullet points, no code"
  • "Focus on API changes and breaking changes"
  • "Include deployment status for each completed item"

Report Delivery

Reports are currently available in-app via the project reports page. You generate a report, and it appears in the report viewer with full markdown rendering. Future versions will support scheduled email delivery — a weekly digest of your personalised report delivered to your inbox.
