Account Settings

Your account settings let you manage your profile information, upload an avatar, and configure personal preferences like notifications and privacy.

Profile & Avatar

Customise how you appear across DevSpec. Your avatar and display name are visible in the top-right user menu and session participants lists.

Uploading an avatar

• Navigate to Settings > Account.
• Click the avatar area or the "Upload" button.
• Select an image file — supported formats are JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF.
• The image is cropped to a circle automatically.

Colour palette option

If you prefer not to upload a photo, DevSpec generates an avatar from your initials over one of 7 accent colours. You can cycle through colours from the Account tab.

Avatar uploads are limited to 5 MB. Files larger than this will be rejected with an error message.

Account & security

Everything about how you sign in lives on the Account tab, in DevSpec's own sections. Credentials themselves are held by Clerk, our authentication provider: DevSpec never stores a password or a code.

• Name and photo. How you appear to the people you work with.
• Email addresses. Add an address (we email a code to confirm it), choose which is primary, remove the others.
• Connected accounts. Sign in with GitHub, Google or Microsoft; connect or disconnect them here.
• Password. Set one, change it (with the option to sign out of every other device), or remove it when a passkey or connected account can sign you in instead.
• Two-factor. Turn on an authenticator app by scanning the QR code and entering one code. Your backup codes are shown once; save them somewhere safe.
• Passkeys. Register a passkey on the device you are using, name it, remove it.
• Active devices. Every session signed in as you, with this one marked. Sign out anything you do not recognise.

Only the sign-in methods your Clerk instance offers appear here. Changing a credential asks you to confirm it is you first when your last check is more than a few minutes old: your password, a code we email you, or a passkey, then your authenticator app where two-factor is on. It is one dialog, whichever change you were making.

Git Provider Connections

Git connections live on your account, under You → Connections. You authorize a provider (GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, or Gitea / Forgejo) once, and that connection works across every project you administer. Tracking specific repositories into a project happens in the project's Integrations — and every member of that project can then work with the repos you add through your connection.

Notifications

Configure email and in-app notifications from the Notifications tab in Settings. DevSpec lets you control exactly what reaches your inbox and what appears in the notification bell.

Email notifications

• Low-balance warnings — when your organization's balance is running low.
• Mentions, assignments, and other Needs-action events when you enable email for those categories.
• Account closure warnings — advance notice before an account that has not been used for two years is closed (always on; cannot be disabled).
• Inactivity reminder — a one-time email when your organisation has funds but you have not signed in for a year (always on; cannot be disabled).

In-app notifications

• Mentions — when someone @-mentions you in a session.
• Low-balance alerts in the notification bell.

Data & Privacy

Settings → Data & Privacy is where you control what DevSpec collects about you and what happens to your account.

• Analytics — choose whether anonymous usage data (pages visited, time on page, device type) is collected. Your messages and anything you share in a session are never part of it.
• Export your data — ask for a copy of what is yours: your profile and preferences, your memberships, every message you wrote with the room it was in, your notifications, your usage and ledger entries, and the files you uploaded. We prepare the zip in the background, tell you when it is ready, and the download works for 7 days. An Owner can export everything the organisation owns, rooms and all, from Settings → Organization.
• Close your account — removes your sign-in, saved connections and tokens, preferences and notifications. Messages and work you contributed to your teams stay, shown as Former member. A workspace that only you own, with nobody else in it, is deleted with your account, and the confirmation names it. If you are the only owner of an organisation that has other members, transfer ownership first.

Closing your account cannot be undone. Your teams keep their rooms, action items, memories and artifacts; only what identifies you is removed.
