Account Settings

Your account settings let you manage your profile information, upload an avatar, and configure personal preferences like notifications and privacy.

Profile & Avatar

Customise how you appear across DevSpec. Your avatar and display name are visible in the top-right user menu and session participants lists.

Uploading an avatar

  • Navigate to Settings > Account.
  • Click the avatar area or the "Upload" button.
  • Select an image file — supported formats are JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF.
  • The image is cropped to a circle automatically.

Colour palette option

If you prefer not to upload a photo, DevSpec generates an avatar from your initials over one of 7 accent colours. You can cycle through colours from the Account tab.

Avatar uploads are limited to 5 MB. Files larger than this will be rejected with an error message.

Security

Security settings are managed through Clerk and accessible from the Account tab. Clerk provides enterprise-grade authentication infrastructure so DevSpec does not store passwords directly.

  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) via authenticator app or SMS.
  • Register passkeys for passwordless sign-in on supported devices.
  • View and revoke active sessions across all your devices.
  • Change your email address or password at any time.

Git Provider Connections

Git connections live on your account, under You → Connections. You authorize a provider (GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, or Gitea / Forgejo) once, and that connection works across every project you administer. Tracking specific repositories into a project happens in the project's Integrations — and every member of that project can then work with the repos you add through your connection.

See Git Provider Connections for the supported providers, permissions, and how to connect, and Repository Integration for adding a repo to a project.

Notifications

Configure email and in-app notifications from the Notifications tab in Settings. DevSpec lets you control exactly what reaches your inbox and what appears in the notification bell.

Email notifications

  • Session started — when a session you follow begins.
  • Credit warnings — when your credit balance is running low.
  • Organization alerts — role changes, membership updates.
  • Inactivity reminders — periodic nudges if you haven't signed in.
  • Account deletion warnings — advance notice before account removal.

In-app notifications

  • Mentions — when someone @-mentions you in a session.
  • Credit warnings — low-balance alerts in the notification bell.

Privacy & Data

Control your privacy settings and manage your data from the Privacy tab. These settings let you decide how visible you are and what happens to your data.

  • Hide online status — other users cannot see when you are active.
  • Disable typing indicator — your typing activity is not broadcast.
  • Opt out of analytics — exclude your activity from aggregated usage analytics.

Data management

  • Export your data as a JSON archive including sessions, action items, and resources.
  • Delete all conversations — permanently removes every session and message.
  • Delete account — removes your account and all associated data.

Account deletion is irreversible. All your projects, sessions, resources, and data are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
